Hazardous waste
Drop off packaging that contains hazardous waste at the municipal collection point for hazardous waste. Some packaging can be dropped off at a recycling station if it is completely empty. Check the hazard symbol for instructions.
Packaging that can be dropped of at a recycling station
Packaging labeled with the hazard symbols below, such as hairspray packaging, can be dropped of at a recycling station.
Any packaging that has contained hazardous waste must be completely empty when it is dropped off for recycling. Otherwise, they can cause sparks when containers are emptied, which could lead to fire.
Remember that:
- Packaging designed for gas must be decommissioned and not contain any liquid material that can be converted into gas.
- Corks and lids must be removed and sorted separately by their type of material.
- Packaging that has contained paint, impregnating agents, adhesives, varnish or spackle can be sent for recycling in bins for plastic or metal packaging if they have been scraped out and are dry.
Packaging that should not be dropped off at a recycling station
Packaging labeled with the hazard symbols listed below must not be dropped off at FTI’s recycling stations. They must be disposed of at a staffed municipal recycling center or a designated collection point for hazardous waste.
